August 5th marks a very special day. According to the visionaries at Medjugorje, Bosnia, the children to whom Mary appeared in 1981, and continues today, this is Mother Mary's Birthday! She told them so! (The Catholic Church celebrates her birthday on September 8th.) We've chosen August 5th to celebrate, as this is also the day, exactly a year ago, we moved into our house in San Luis to begin the on-site process of creating the Casa. And, an exciting year it has been. We will soon be raising the long awaited Mother Mary Totem Statue Carving scheduled to arrive the first week in September. Perhaps on September 8th. For those of you who have been following the progress of the statue we have new and exciting pictures of the progress. Master Carver Lee Wallace has taken on a new apprentice Charles Peele. Lee shared, "Our families come from the same village of Hydaburg, Alaska. My Grandfather John Wallace is the founder of Hydaburg, he was a master carver, and spiritual lay person." As you can see the orb just above and to the right of Charles head, we are delighted to share this visible sign that Mother Mary and her Holy Helpers are guiding this beloved project.
Our Casa carving project has attracted local interest in Ketchikan, Alaska. Lee shared that a photographer took some pictures and plans to do a story for the local newspaper. Mother Mary continues to tell us to "keep things simple!" but we're hoping to soon be able to raise the money needed to create the paved star pattern and walkway which would beautify the area surrounding the statue. If that's not meant to be, we'll find out soon enough. Next month we'll be introducing several programs that will allow you to be part of this effort. Keeping in mind our overall plan that the Casa de Santa Maria is a non-denominational spiritual oasis welcoming people of all faiths, this is a reminder that Mother Mary's likeness in the garden will eventually be joined by those of other revered spiritual leaders.
